Ministry of Transport: in the first quarter, freight volume and port cargo throughput maintained rapid growth. Data from the Ministry of Transport show that the overall operation of the transportation economy got off to a good start in the first quarter, with double-digit growth in cross-regional personnel turnover, rapid growth in freight volume and port cargo throughput, and high investment in traffic fixed assets. In the first quarter, the completed commercial freight volume was 12.45 billion tons, an increase of 4.9 percent over the same period last year. Of this total, the completed road freight volume was 9.01 billion tons, an increase of 5.1% over the same period last year, and the waterway freight volume was 2.2 billion tons, an increase of 7.9% over the same period last year. In the first quarter, the cargo throughput of ports across the country was 4.09 billion tons, an increase of 6.1% over the same period last year, of which the throughput of domestic and foreign trade increased by 4.6% and 9.5% respectively. The container throughput was 76.73 million TEUs, an increase of 10.0% over the same period last year.
